On 4 August 2026, AG Tsakani Maluleke delivered a keynote address at the 10th Mbali International Conference, hosted by the University of Zululand in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The conference brought together business leaders, government officials and academics to discuss issues critical to the development of South Africa and the African continent.

Speaking under the theme, The role of accountability in Africa's rise, the AG reflected on Africa's vast natural resources and the significant opportunities they present to drive prosperity across the continent. She emphasised that Africa has never lacked ideas, ambition or capability, but that progress depends on the behavioural discipline needed to translate potential into meaningful outcomes for its people.

The AG challenged delegates to focus on three key imperatives for Africa's journey towards prosperity: strengthening institutions that outlast individual leaders and administrations, pursuing a collective agenda for shared prosperity, and embracing accountability not only as a mechanism for oversight but also as a personal responsibility to current and future generations.

Her message underscored the vital role that accountability plays in building a prosperous, ethical and sustainable future for Africa.
