Johannesburg – The Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA), in partnership with Henley Business School Africa, celebrated a key milestone today with the graduation of the first cohort of executives from the inaugural Executive Transition Programme. This strategic initiative is designed to strengthen leadership capacity and drive the successful implementation of AGSA’s Culture Shift 2030 strategy.

Launched earlier this year, the programme equips high-potential leaders with the skills, knowledge and support required to transition seamlessly into management roles. Participants were guided in developing critical leadership capabilities, sharpening decision-making skills, and fostering innovation. The first graduating class includes 16 business unit leaders and deputy business unit leaders. Their graduation was marked by a ceremony attended by AGSA leadership and the faculty from Henley Business School Africa.

The programme is closely aligned to AGSA’s culture shift 2030 strategy, ensuring that emerging leaders are equipped to build a stronger, more agile organisation that continues to deliver on AGSA’s constitutional mandate of auditing to strengthen South Africa’s democracy.

This leadership development initiative forms part of AGSA’s ongoing investment in its people. Earlier this year, the AGSA achieved a significant milestone when it was certified as a Top Employer 2025 by the global Top Employers Institute—placing it among 2,400 organisations worldwide recognised for creating a positive impact in the lives of their employees.

Speaking on the importance of this initiative, Deputy Auditor-General Vonani Chauke said: “Programmes like this are crucial, as they enable us to live up to our commitment as a certified Top Employer while empowering our people to advance our strategic goal of improving the lived realities of South African citizens.”

Henley Business School Africa’s Pro-Dean for Teaching and Learning and Student Experience, Linda Buckley, emphasised the close collaboration between Henley’s design team and the AGSA leadership to ensure the programme’s direct relevance and practical application to the AGSA’s unique strategic context.

The graduation of this first cohort signals intentional efforts to nurture and grow leadership talent at the AGSA by building a pipeline of capable leaders to achieve the objectives of the culture shift 2030 strategy and sustain contributions to building public trust and strengthening South Africa’s democracy
