AG Tsakani Maluleke recently delivered a public lecture at the University of KwaZulu-Natal's College of Humanities, where she shared insights on the role of the AGSA in enhancing government's service delivery performance and contributing to the development of a capable state.

The engagement formed part of the AGSA's ongoing efforts to strengthen relationships with academic institutions, promote knowledge sharing, and contribute to meaningful discussions on governance, accountability and public sector performance.

Addressing students, academics and stakeholders, the AG highlighted the AGSA's role as an independent chapter 9 institution established to strengthen South Africa's democracy and support the building of a capable and responsive state.

She explained that the AGSA's work extends beyond auditing financial statements and compliance requirements. Through its auditing and reporting processes, the institution provides independent insights and practical recommendations that assist government institutions in improving performance, accountability and service delivery.

"Through our work, we help build a government that is accountable, transparent, effective and responsive to the needs of citizens," she said.

The AG emphasised that transparency remains a cornerstone of an effective supreme audit institution and, by publicly reporting audit outcomes, the AGSA provides citizens with credible and independent information that enables them to hold those entrusted with governing accountable for their actions and decisions.
